Andy Carroll: £15mn would be a fair price. Anything more and you need your head testedAndy Carroll: £15mn would be a fair price. Anything more and you need your head tested

Andy Carroll might not join Liverpool and despite our prediction that Torres would be kissing the Chelsea badge today, Torres might very well be playing in the red of Liverpool for the rest of the season.

However, Torres by the looks of things will probably join Chelsea and if that happens and Liverpool then go and throw away £35mn on Andy Carroll, I think I might drink myself to sleep tonight. It will just be further proof that the madmen have taken control of the asylum and everyone else is happy for it to keep going on.

Torres was good business

When Liverpool signed Torres, it was good business. If Liverpool sell Torres for £50mn it will also be good business, but only because the player wanted out. It will be good business because you always have to pay more in January and they will get more, not much mind, than they really should from Chelsea.

But if Liverpool then go and spend that amount above on Andy Carroll when they've just brought in Luis Suarez - it would be madness and a huge mistake.

Liverpool are out of the FA Cup, out of the League Cup and have no chance of winning the League and while mathematically they could still finish in the top four, they wont. Every football fan in the country knows it and you'll be hard pressed to find a Liverpool fan that thinks it is going to happen too.

They should keep the money in the bank and if come the summer they are still convinced Andy Carroll is the man to help bring success back to Anfield, then pay the £15mn that he is really worth.

The game is broken

But, it will add further proof that the game is broken, because the only man happy with this type of business is going to be Mike Ashley. He'll be laughing all the way to the bank and I'll predict today, if Carroll joins Liverpool, he will flop.
